New WIP Novel Aesthetics
by Christy on November 21, 2016
Wowee! So many exciting things have happened since I last posted here! In August I was chosen as a mentee in Pitch Wars, an incredible writing contest that has launched many a career and ultimately, connects writers with a larger community and helps make our manuscripts much stronger. I'm going to write more about this amazing experience in a longer post.
For now, though, I'll leave you with this lovely image - a #novelaesthetics for my new WIP, which I'm totally on fire about. City teenagers, shared secrets, crushed hearts, coffee, goth bands, cute European exchange student boys, cozy home libraries, plotting, scheming and a whole lotta sass. Oh, and platform diving. And girls kissing. And the psychology of fame. And the impact of social media on teens.
I'm just having way too much fun with this.

Oooweee, it's like Christmas morning when a yummy box of foreign editions comes in the mail from my publisher. Behold FARMED OUT (audiobooks in German, Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian) and THE BIG APPLE EFFECT (in Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian - the Finnish I can recognize, but don't ask me to distinguish between the other two!). Love, love the cover design and colour scheme! The lovely Finnish translator, Virve Juhola, even tracked me down on Twitter to let me know how much fun she had translating them - pretty neat, eh?
I think probably the best translated title for FARMED OUT is the German one - check it out - FENG SHUI IM SCHWEINESTALL, which pretty much translates to "Feng Shui in the Pigsty"! Ha ha! I'm seriously still laughing over it. If you haven't read my book, it's about a girl and her new age-y hippie mom going to volunteer on an organic farm for a week. There are pigpens in the book, and feng shui, but not at once. Still, clever and catchy title, I thought.
EXPLORE - now in its third printing!
by Christy on July 11, 2016
Apparently my updates are all about mail so far! On Friday I received a nice pumfy package from my publisher with the news that my first book, Explore, is now in its third printing. I never would have guessed that this little book I wrote eight years ago would still be doing so well, and be not only still in print, but getting re-prints to boot! I loved writing the main character for this book - Mike, a young man of few well-chosen words - and I'd love to return to his story one day. We'll see...

It's like Christmas on the (rare) days that I get snail mail fan mail! This lovely drawing was accompanied by a wonderful letter, from a fifth-grade fan in the States. Completely warmed the cockles of my heart. Getting letters like this is why I write for kids. *happy sigh*
